In this Role:
The District Safety & Security Coordinator is responsible for ensuring a safe and secure environment for all WPS students, staff, and visitors.
This individual will conduct regular security checks/vulnerability assessments, ensure staff are trained on proper safety and security procedures, recommend policy and procedural changes in line with industry best practices, own the District's emergency preparedness planning and creation/maintenance of the Emergency Operations Plan document, monitor social media and other threats that may impact WPS, coordinate with SROs and public safety officials, and perform other duties necessary to maintain the physical security of District facilities and those who use them.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND
Responsibilities:
Manage the collaborative process of creating, regularly reviewing, and updating the District Emergency Operations Plan Proactively seek ways to improve operational control and efficiency in predicting, mitigating, and responding to disruptions and security issues Regularly review and make recommendations for changes to District policies and procedures related to safety and security Seek out and recommend appropriate safety and security training for employees Manage the process of planning for, carrying out, and reporting mandated safety drills in all District facilities and buses Work with building administrators to identify areas of needed improvement in campus security systems Become an expert in best practices in campus safety and security through research, training, and establishing appropriate connections with security and technology vendors and public safety experts Conduct regular walkthroughs of each District facility to identify potential security vulnerabilities including items such as propped exterior doors, open windows, unlocked or latch-disabled classroom doors, broken or inadequate PA system components, deviations from established security protocols, etc.
Document staff training on emergency procedures and make sure each classroom has an up-to-date emergency response flipchart stored in a standardized location Verify that critical incident mapping resources reflect the current state of each facility and work with the mapping vendor to update as needed Verify that emergency response language is consistently applied across the district and aligns with State of Michigan standards Research and implement additional group communication capabilities for staff as needed to ensure that all buildings have multiple communication methods in an emergency situation Formalize MERT membership and procedures and document appropriate training for these individuals in CPR, First Aid, AED, etc.
Coordinate non-mandated drills in lockdowns and active emergency events, and audit the performance of students and employees during these drills Ensure emergency response plans include accommodations for disabled staff and students Review, improve, and maintain visitor management protocols and train staff responsible for carrying out these activities Work with appropriate staff to formalize the District's behavioral threat assessment procedures Act as the District's point person for reunification efforts in the event of an emergency Utilize general and targeted social media monitoring to identify potential threats Review procedures for guest teachers to ensure they are prepared for emergency situations Coordinate with central office, operations, and technology teams on responding to District alarms and emergency calls, as well as 911 call management and compliance Maintain inventory control for stop-the-bleed buckets and emergency go-bags Make sure that District AED equipment is up to date and in working order Review interior and exterior signage related to emergency response and visitor management, and make recommendations for improvements where needed Other duties as assignedAdditional DutiesPerforms other related tasks as assigned by the Superintendent and/or Principal or other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

)EDUCATION AND TRAINING:
Minimum of BS/BA in education, law enforcement/public safety, occupational safety and health, or related area
Experience:
Minimum of three years as a teacher, administrator, law enforcement officer, occupational safety and health manager, or related experience.
